Piracy Is Back: Why Streaming Services Are to Blame

Piracy Is Back: Why Streaming Services Are to Blame
November 16, 2025 2 min read 20 views

We are surrounded by streaming services. If you want to read a book, there's Kindle. If you want to watch a movie, there's Netflix or Amazon Prime. If you want to listen to music, there's Spotify. We pay them. We take their subscriptions. But in reality, they control us.

I remember last time I was watching a seven-episode web series. I watched two episodes, and the next day, the series was completely removed from the platform. If you have a Kindle subscription, they can remove a book you're halfway through, just because they want to. We pay them, but they control all the media on their platforms.

And now, you may have noticed, even when you purchase a plan, they still show you ads. It makes no sense. I have paid you; for what reason do I have to watch your ad? If I'm a free user, it makes sense. But if I've paid for a subscription, why are you showing me an ad?

Because of this, piracy, which was going down since 2020, has made a comeback. It's causing billions of dollars in losses to these streaming platforms because people are now just pirating movies, books, and web series. People are fed up. We pay you, but we don't control the content. You delete a book I'm halfway through. You remove a web series I'm enjoying. And it's not just one platform; every platform is repeating the same business model.

In this scenario, there are only two possibilities.

Number one: If you want to read a book or watch a movie, just buy a physical copy. Then, nobody can take it back from you.

Number two: Screen all the streaming services and analyze which platform has the content you want to consume this month. Just take the subscription for that one platform for that month. Watch everything you want, and you will save a lot of money that you're currently wasting on multiple subscriptions.

And remember, when you take the subscription for one platform, turn off the auto-renew button. Let's say this month you take a subscription to platform A. Next month, all the content you want to watch is on platform B. Then you just take the platform B subscription without paying for platform A. This way, you will stream everything you want without paying a lot of money.
